freeware scanners are not all they are cracked up to be. I had many problems when i used freeware security scanners.

with some of the free scanner i got links added to my systems registry that were malware related and were not detected by other scannners but houscall picked them up and cleaned my system.

I have mine a norton anti-virus and spybot search%26destroy. U should have atleast two spyware to protect ur computer. If ur needing freebies for this software u can go to: CNET downloads.com their site is the safest and thats where I got all my other stuffs for my pc. :-)
AVG is the best free anti-virus on the net so far, and as for a firewall, U can get one with the paid version of AVG. If u want to go freeware all the way, Zone Alarm has a free version, but it's feature-limited. As for spyware programs, AdAware still works well, but I have heard a lot of ppl using SpyBot Search and Destory. Your internet provider might even offer a package of anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spyware. U might want to check that out.
Try downloading the Mozilla Firefox Internet browser it's much safer than internet explorer.
