Norton Antivirus sent me a report today that someone was trying to access my computer. I read the report but I was having internet connection problems and when I tried to find out where the IP address was located, it failed, and I had to reboot.
I've tried to trace the address with the free IP lookups they have online, but they all aren't able to trace the date.
Does anyone know where I can get more info on IP addresses or how I can use the numbers to trace. The IP I want to trace is 192.168.1.1. Thanks!
How to trace an IP address?virus
192.168.1.1 is indeed from a router. Also, most of the time Norton Antivirus and other firewalls are a bit fear mongering. When it says someone is trying to break in, more than likely your computer is being randomly scanned by worms spreading across the internet looking for computers that are insecure. This happens many times a day and it's nothing to worry about if you have a firewall, it's just an attempt by the firewall makers to panic their customers into thinking that people are out their trying to break into their PC and they should continue their subscription (even though there are many free products that work just as well)
However, if you want to find out the location of an IP address, I suggest using searchbug.net
http://www.searchbug.com/peoplefinder/lo...
It will tell you the location of their ISP, determining the exact location of a computer assigned to an IP address is almost impossible unless you contact the ISP for customer records.
