I have a virus on my computer.... I need a hammer!!!?

So one minute my computer is fine and the next i am being bombarded with an advert that my PC is at risk and someone is trying to steal my personal info. I currently have Avira antivirus but obviously its not finding the problem.

This virus( from what i can see is malware, though i dont know what that is) has loaded desktop icons and has found a home in my favorites list. I looked in my programs file to remove it but the only place i can see it is hiding is in my favorites list. every few seconds a bubble will either pop up near my clock, or warning signs pop up A LOT!! What should I do? I even tried deletign all the programs i dont NEED to have so maybe it would magically disappear. Are there any good free Malware detection trial offers I could download from somewhere?

Your PC is infected with a smitfraud trojan. There are 2 ways to remove it. Both are free, or you can make a donation if you like.

You should boot from another OS and try running a virus clean from it. You may have to install a OS for that(in a different disk partition preferably).
