Restoring a hardrive to get rid of a pain in the *** virus/spyware?

I have at least 2 viruses/trojans that I know of, and nothing seems to get rid of them. I have tried everything (well, everything that is free as I'm in college and have NO spare money to speak of), so I have three questions:

1) Would restoring my hardrive get rid of the virus(es)? (If not, then the next two questions are frivolous.)

2) How safe is it to put files like homework, pictures, music, etc. on an external drive and and out them back on my computer?

3) How do I restore the hardrive?

thumbs up to penical7, he's right, turn off system restore and run avg. You could also go to trendmicro.com and run housecalls. I's on the main page. It removes virus, malware, greyware and spyware. Best free scan on the net that actually removes it without having to purchase.

avg free should clear it up

2, should be pretty safe most mal-ware and spyware only look a c:\.

3,turn off system restore run virus scanner remove them, turn system restore back on.

had same problem with mcafee and had to this myself, should work. good luck.
There are a lot of things you can do. most virus scan places will let you have a free 30 day trial. Try Panda , they are pretty good. To restore the hard drive you will need the install disk for your computer. if you have a common computer like a dell you could borrow someone elses windows install disk. On back up you might try to e-mail the homework and other small files to yourself, yahoo and a few other free e-mail services will scan the items for free. if you do back up to another hard drive or pen drive be sure to have a free trial of an antivirus on the computer before putting the stuff back on which you backed up from the computer.
If you use the Internet a lot you should get AVG Mal ware ( anti virus and spy ware ) . Yes you have to pay for it but it really stops all the nasty's because you can set it to update on a frequant basis. Have a look at there site Grisoft.com and down load a trial version, you will find it extremely good.Once you have downloaded the soft ware run it and it should remove the viruses if not down load the virus removal tool and run that. Good luck.
