Computer Anti-virus/protection?

I currently use:

Norton Firewall, Norton Antivirus, Windows defender, CCleaner, Spybot Search and Destroy.

I have heard that Norton is slowing my computer down (I dont have the most up to date PC - 1.5ghz processor, 256mb ram) Someone suggested getting rid of the anti virus and installing AVG free version.

What is the difference between Norton Anti Virus and AVG? what does one do that the other doesnt? Also would you advise this? and is the Firewall replaceable by some free program to stop that from slowing my computer...

Do I have enough protection?

I have bad experience with Norton,It slows down the Pc as you have stated. I downloaded AVG.It is good. I suggest that you can study various options available and select a suitable antivirus. There is a study report at http://jskproducts.co.uk/antivirus.htm You can take some guidance.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts.I also use Windows Defender. Hope this helps.

Annoying voice plays every time I check my email...?

I don't know how this happened, but yet everytime I check my yahoo mail, for at least the past 2 day's this annoying girl voice keeps saying, "Congradulations, you've been selected to recieve a free Xbox 360" or she say's, "Congradulations, you've been selected to recieve a free ipod nano" this plays as soon as I log in to check my mail...no pop up window, or anything to track it, just a plain old voice of some girl talking an advertizement or something....so how can I get rid of this thing? I have been running AVG Antivirus, and AVG Anti-Spyware side by side, scanned and updated both, found 54 medium threats and deleted them all, and it's still there...?

Haha! Alot of sites have that. Its an advertisment on the top of the page. Itsn not a virus or an ad, its part of the page. Its a very common ad, and dont worry, I HATE IT TOOO!!!! i mean does anyone really think they won an ipod nano? Oh and did u notice they changed? They used to say u won an ipod (orxbox) not they say, "u have won 2 free ipod nanos) i guess one wasnt working for them so they think ppl will click on it if its 2! lol stupid ppl out there

You are kinda getting ripped off at least from my stand of view. It looks like we would charge approximately 100 pounds or so less than that. The configuration is not bad though. Slow computer?

I don't know why my computer is running slow. I've done antivirus scans, defrags, disk cleanups, and deleted programs I don't use but still no improvement. I can barely use any programs, can't view videos very well because it lags so bad, I can't listen to music because it keeps cutting and skipping no matter what program I use, internet is slow as well, there are NO viruses, even booting up takes a while. I haven't had these problems before. I need help.

I checked the properties on My Computer and it says I have 640 MB of RAM

I have two hard drives:

my (C:) drive has 139 GB free space and

my (D:) drive has 246 GB free space

P.S. Please understand that I WILL NOT do those registry cleanups or go-download-this-program-to-make-my-comp... crap so don't bother promoting because I won't do it.

Slow computer?free spyware

You can try to do the following.

Click start , then run

Type msconfig

A window opens with many tabs: general, system.ini..

Click the last tab which is startup. You will see that many programs are clicked. Unclick all of them (diable all), most of them are unnecessary and run in the background taking up space, if the system needs them during startup it will take care of it, so dont have to worry if you unclicked a necessary program.

Something took over my desktop screen!!?

i've already tried spyware Doctor. its realy good i got alot of viruses and hikers off but the screen is still there. i also have Norton Antivirus for my computer,its keeping the pop ups realy good. but my screen, it just wont go away! is there anything i can do to take this off. Atleast something free or free trial. Here is a pic of wat it looks like. (it changes mostly everyday.)

Download the free home version of Adaware, and Spybot SD. Update and scan with both and you should be fine.

You have adware.

Download adaware, spybot search and destroy, and get rid of Norton for something better...try AVG or Avast. (Norton absolutely sucks compared to other options, along with Mcafee.)

Check to make sure remote access is turned off!! This was happening to my husband. Go to your control panel and open system from there you should see remote tab on top. click on that and make sure you are not allowing others to access you pc. good luck

iv tried to fix it with spyware doctor, nortan antivirus, and smitfree download in normal mode and safe mode but still get the pop up when using internet explorer and when searching in goolgle every time it offers free porn download and free repair tool.

by the way as symantec says the threat level is low so its nothing to be worried about but remove it ASAP !
