I use AVG free. It is VERY light on resources. I have heard good things about Kaspersky, but I don't know how resource hungry it is.

Why might I want to dump Norton?

I've not had any problems with Norton antivirus and firewall, but lately I鈥檝e been seeing people talking about how it slows your system way down. So I'm wondering what I should replace them with that are just as good. I know about AVG, but is it popular simply because it's free? What firewall should I pair it up with? Is Zone Alarm any good or is its popularity only stemmed from the fact that it's free too. What are some others you've used and recommend?

Also if you can't tell me in 10 lines of text you will get a thumbs down. Unless your explaining your experiences with that product. I don't want an answer of a list of 100 products like I've seen that girl "Cutie" do. I want an honest review.

I use Avira and AVG Avast! for home and haven't had a problem with either yet. Had Norton for a while and it was ok, but surprise, surprise when I installed Avira, it found 5 potential risks that came up as high security risks. Norton missed them. Why would you pay for Norton when there's free programs that are better and FREE?

Hi, I had nortons 2006. It was too big for my puter but I do have an old system. Pentium 3. And it bogged me down bad. So I just reinstalled Nortons 2003. It works great. I think Nortons is overdoing it a bit with all the added features. But zone alarm works quite well and is free. But if you don't have a problem with Nortons slowing you down. I'd keep it.
Norton can slow down your system. But that is the price you pay for protection. I usually find as long as your not downloading a lot of stuff You won't get any viruses. I have NO protection on my system and have never had a problem.

My computer is slow when I right click files.?

My PC is slow at locating files on the hard disc, so when I open a picture to view it, or when I right click some MP3 files, it takes about 6 seconds to locate it and give me detailed info about it.

My hard disc has a 232GB capacity of which 45GB are free.

I think it's probably because of the limited free space, but I have heard that windows does that over time, because of the many registries created through months of use.

I will not use a registry cleaner because I don't trust them.

Thanks in advance for any info you have.

PC Specs:

Dual core viiv

1GB ram

7500LE GeForce

Windows XP professional updated

Firewall, antivirus

I dont have much spyware.

Is there a way to fix this problem, other than the obvious "delete your stuff"

some times with my computer it slowes down and i do a error checking and its good as new. but if u go to my computer right click and the c drive go to properties then in the tabes go to tools and then go to error checking. click both checks and click run. then u have to restart your computer to start it. note it will take a while at least 3 hours prob lot more with such a big hard drive. and it might not hert to rerun diskdefragmater and run disk clean up
Of course run your Anti-spy-ware and Anti-virus but I have a feeling that you could use a good Defrag.

use a firewall and most importantly windows defender (it really helps).

you can also check with stinger from mcafee

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

using this u can remove the virus and spywares.
Run online scanner that will eliminate the infections:

http://hubpages.com/hub/Top-Free-Online-...

If you have Firefox, use it for TrendMicro Housecall on Java, and keep IE closed.
Go to Bestbuy or Target store to buy anti-trojan horse disk to clean all that virus.

-Thats what I did %26 have no more problems. :)
try: antivir pc classic

before doing the adaware scan i uninstalled the avg. i also tried system restore, but it says i have no restore points. i have used system restore a few times before so im not sure if maybe the spyware messed that up too.

Hello ,

Try full system scans in "Safe Mode"

I would simply perform a Complete System Restore .....

sTART your compter in "safe mode"

by tapping "F8" on start up (start tapping from first black screen)

then run you scans
YOU got problems,avast home edition,http://www.avast.com/
Run your anti-spyware in Safe Mode.If you dont have an excellent anti-spyware or your current anti-spyware can't prevent spyware from Invading you computer, download a better one.

There are top 5 anti-spywares reviews, comparisons and download links on

http://www.anti-spyware-center.com

You can download and scan your computer for free.

As the computer is booting press your "F8 Key" repeatly which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" . Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

After into safe mode, run an anti-spyware to remove the spyware and adware on you computer.

Make sure you have 1 or 2 antispyware on your computer and 1 antivirus and also 1 firewall.

GOOD LUCK!
Use Avast or NOd32

Quality adware removal?

I have a good antivirus software on our computer, but it is not strong enough for the adds. They keep coming and make the use of the computer difficult. Can anyone suggest a good free adware programm I could use of recomm anything at all even to be paid for. At the moment I'm using a programm recomended by Microsoft, it is from Lavasoft, the free version. It works so so. Please help.

Try these. SpywareBlaster uses no system resources whatsoever. Spybot S%26D has a AD Helper component that can provide real-time protection as well. All are free.

This is free and requires you to check for and enable updates manually once a week or so. It uses no system resources. It blocks spyware before it installs.

SpywareBlaster (inoculates, not a spyware removal tool)

Computer Anti-virus/protection?

I currently use:

Norton Firewall, Norton Antivirus, Windows defender, CCleaner, Spybot Search and Destroy.

I have heard that Norton is slowing my computer down (I dont have the most up to date PC - 1.5ghz processor, 256mb ram) Someone suggested getting rid of the anti virus and installing AVG free version.

What is the difference between Norton Anti Virus and AVG? what does one do that the other doesnt? Also would you advise this? and is the Firewall replaceable by some free program to stop that from slowing my computer...

Do I have enough protection?

Computer Anti-virus/protection?free antivirus download

I have bad experience with Norton,It slows down the Pc as you have stated. I downloaded AVG.It is good. I suggest that you can study various options available and select a suitable antivirus. There is a study report at http://jskproducts.co.uk/antivirus.htm You can take some guidance.

Computer Anti-virus/protection?internet security

well I found a video that explains the best anti virus solution and seems its really true! :)

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/... Report It

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts.I also use Windows Defender. Hope this helps.
